Week 38 of weight maintenance - Caloric Trajectory --> MRI Edition

No, I did not forget to post my caloric trajectory last night. I had to do some "hokus pokas" maneuvering with my cals. Instead of the usual 1517 cal Sunday, I chose to switch those with Mondays cals at 1686 to compensate for increased activity.

Today was MRI day and I make it a point not be as active on these days, because I'm heavily sedated while I'm in the machine. And, frankly all I want to do when I get home is sleep and that is exactly what happened. I did a get nice walk in after I woke up, fixed a late breakfast, and finished some chores.

But, I also did a triathlon's worth of activities this past week starting with resistance training on Wednesday, Cardio on Tuesday w/high resistance, Weights on Sunday, and 2.5 miles worth of swimming Friday - Sunday. This is on top of the daily 40 minute walking circuits I take.

I realized this weekend that this girl's mindset is beginning to transition into another perspective regarding health and weight maintenance. I over ate my 2400 cal day by 400 cals and am glad it happened. I am starting to realize when a person hits these levels of fitness, one's perspective of food really takes a shift. Oh, I certainly enjoy what I eat for sure, but it's fuel in the most real way.

After getting out of the pool on Saturday, I found myself rushing to take down my planned for protein bar and protein chips to get me through until my mother and I were able to get to the wine tasting and Indian restaurant. I had swam a mile that day, and did an hour's worth of weights before. I didn't eat any carbs, but knew there were going to be some when we hit the wine bar and restaurant so I was doing my best to hold out.

I gotta tell you, it gave me a whole new respect for keto folks that keep their carbs so low. I cannot imagine how this engine might run on so little carbs. I honestly thought I was going to collapse by the time we got to the wine tasting. Thank goodness they had an all carb venue - cookies, potato salad, pasta salad, little chocolate cup cakes. The minute I put the first cookie in my mouth, I felt this body immediately respond and I started to feel stable.

So, why am I not ashamed that I over ate?

Even with the cals consumed over a 2 day period, it doesn't come close to over compensating for what I burned (even with the error ratio I use)

What was essential about the experience is it made me realize this isn't just about CICO anymore and weight maintenance. These 2 things are crucial - but it's going to be important to ensure this body is getting the sufficient amount of fuel for its activity level.

Why is that important?

One word: ---> Performance

I have no intentions of stopping this pursuit of fitness. I love it! It's such a wonderful way to find out what I'm capable of or how in what ways I can approach simple movement to reach a fitness goal. It tests this brain and body's competency, skill, endurance, and stamina. And, frankly I LOVE THE ENDORPHIN RUSH!

But, it has come to light that ensuring this form has the fuel it needs to perform and train are essential to this endeavor, whether I'm increasing cals or decreasing them, and or ensuring "high performance" days are met with the appropriate fuel. It's no less a negotiation than higgling and haggling with cals to maintain a weight, only this goal is also about ensuring the fuel is there reach peak performance levels.

So, there may be some zig zag varieties beginning to appear. I did weigh in at 135.8 this morning. However, there was definitely some inflammation and water retention. So, I'll wait until next weeks weigh in to see if I've made it back up to 135 lbs.

I hope everyone enjoyed their Monday or at the very least got through it unscathed. Take care and have a wonderful evening.

HUGS & LOVE!
