These were from my garden today. I am trying to count my blessing while I am sorrowful. A deer found my roses two nights ago and ate more than 100 buds. Four bushes have nothing left and several more the buds are half gone. Our back fence blew down two years ago, and we were going to repair it this month with help from some friends. But, that was put on hold because of the virus. It is a small thing to be sure, but I am sad none the less. I may have very few roses for all my "calories out" expended caring for them this year, so I am enjoying the the ones I have while I have them.

Your need some Deer and Rabbit Repellent. I use Liquid Fence and it smells like urine which keeps critters away. Spraying the plants once a month does the trick. I plant all perennials now and only those that are deer "proof." I gave up on roses.

What beautiful roses!

Beautiful pics. Roses are not easy and I imagine more difficult on your side of WA. with a higher average rainfall. Thanks for sharing the beauty 🌹

Melissa, we have a herd of about 10 deer living on the acreage around our property. They often bed down at the side of our house just a few feet into the woods. For a long time after we moved into our house years ago they never got close to the house. Eventually though they found all the perennials we had planted and like to treat our gardens as their own personal salad bar 😊 I make a homemade concoction of eggs, milk, dish soap, oil and water & spray all my plants, including the roses to keep them from eating them. Your gardens are beautiful!

Hehehe!!! Gosh, where to start!!! 😁 Wifey, yes! I've been called back to work one day a week for now. It is good! haolipino, I'm dying!!! 💦💦 That is hilarious! Y'all need not fear I will pee on my roses! My neighbors might not appreciate that on several levels. They would certainly hesitate to accept flowers for their tables! I do think one of my teen sons would happily help me out, but... Nope!

Chris, having socially acceptable behavior is allll relative! 😁 And, I call all my friends dear! I call children honey!😊 Roxy, I love roses too... Too much! ♥️ Donna, that is what my neighbors gave me to use last night! Perhaps they were worried I might go to extreme measures to keep the beasts away! 😂 I got the stuff on my hands... Wow! Horrible stuff!!! I washed and washed! The bottle says to reply after rain... That might be every other day around here sometiems. I'm going to try the motion detection sprinkler when I get it. Maybe that will do the trick! 😁

Thank you, dhatura dear! ❤️ Rainy! They are such a pain! I have to fuss over them so much... It is this or that kind of fungus to fight... Or aphids. It is a bit like children... Accumulated before you know how much trouble they are! But, once you have them you love em and can't just get rid of the time absorbing burdens! ❤️ Kidding! I have five... Kids that is! 😁 💕

Sherry, that is awesome!! Well, about the deer being close! You are the second person to suggest that concoction! It sounds like a great idea and less horrible smelling than that liquid fence stuff. And thank you! 😁

This early in the season, the roses might bud again. How beautiful they are though.

I got a cheap rose bush- knockout roses- from Walmart and they bloom and bloom... but maybe Illinois is different. I have definitely gotten my money's worth and they are lucky to even get watered when there isn't rain- let alone any special care. :)

What does that mean? You sprayed them with water and they were so stunned that they died? That sounds ridiculous. Stop blaming yourself. It's time to move on. :P

Zchefdonna, absolutely! If I can keep them from continuing to treat it like their "own personal salad bar - - SherryeB." 😁 They will be blooming in about a month all through when it gets too cold. Often that is into December!

Knock out roses are so beautiful and hardy and so much more sensible to own than mine! 😁 I asked a panel of "master gardeners" in our area what they felt were the best tips for growing roses here in Western Washington. They looked at me blankly and said "Don't own them!" None of them were willing to fuss with growing the dumb things here! 😁

Wow! 36 Comments but no REAL solution to your problem? Ill solve your problem in one word! VENISON! Roses and many other beautiful plants all grow in abundance and to maturity where there are houses with food freezers full of VENISON! Archery is silent and the safest way in suburban areas to get those lean high protein venison steaks to walk into your freezer.... you get my point? LOL :)

Chris.... Hate. Hate you! 60pack... I'm laughing so hard!!! I won't shoot Bambi! 😂🤣😂 But, I was sure ready to kill when I found the devastating results they left me! Wretched beasts! If they weren't so pretty... Also, I'm not keen on venison. Now moose... That is a different story!!! 😋

Chris..omg 😂💙 Melissa, it's Japanese beatle time here. I'm spraying them as soon as it dries out.

Tatauu! What is this "dries out" you speak of?! 😁 What do they eat?

So sorry about your roses. I read recently that Irish Spring soap cut in pieces and hung in your garden will keep. animals and other pests away, check it out on YouTube.
