I finally managed 3 miles in under 30 minutes! I don't make the attempt often, but today I felt pretty good. I decided to try a shorter, less hilly, and faster run than my usual. This isn't very fast for runners, but it is for this old jogger! :)

KatieMae (love your name) that is only dream time to me! Wow! I think I can confidently say thst will never be me, but since you have been there before, it sure seems possible for you! I don't know that I will push to better this time at all. I think longer slower is probably better for an old injury I have. My Achilles tendon is feeling a bit off this morning. Anyway, thanks for the encouragement and I'm looking forward to following your story!

Thank you, Ireland! John, if only you could see my dripping self afterward, you would not think it looked easy!!! I only wish I was so fit that could be true! 😁 Liv, thank you! I don't feel very fast, and most of the time I just slog along for 5 miles. I wish I had someone to go with, and if it was you I'd be perfectly happy at whatever speed!

Darn good job!

Silkian, thank you so much!!! I almost mentioned you in my post. You are my running inspiration. Seriously! I have never even run a 10k. I think that is my next goal, but I'd like to go to a trail that is flatter down by the lake. Everything around my house is soooooo hilly. The other day for example, I "ran" 5 miles (I have to walk down the steep places) and that made my average speed 11:30 per mile. But right now the trail is busy and I'm not wearing a mask to run!

Thank you, Katsolo! I wish I could swim! Now that is a full body, tough, and healthy work out! I used to when my leg gave out. I'd love to swim again maybe at least once a week. Maybe someday! Thank you, lydium! I'd love to someday do a run with others. Love2educate I think is doing some around here. Thank you, Erquiaga!!! Without losing the weight with all your encouragement and those of others, there is no way I could run! ❤️

Incredible! You did it!!! Great accomplishment!

Thank you, Love2!!!! You know how long I've been working on this. I could keep up with you for a bit anyway now! 😁 I can't believe how long it took. I think if the gym was open I probably would have gotten here sooner. I was nearly sustaining this pace on the treadmill months ago.

land I’d love to run, but i have hamburger knees from youthful stupidity. That said, i watched the Lindsay Vonn documentary on HBO during the winter. If you ever wanted rehab inspiration to do the impossible, that woman is a-ma-zing. Tough as nails.

And, not land. 😑

I started running not to long ago . I'm up to 5 miles a day . I got some hoda shoes and it gave me blisters . do you recommend any shoes ?

Katsolo, what did you do? "Hamburger" knees sound terribly painful! I'm glad you can swim so well and walk!

mandyo1313, super job! You are putting in a heck of a lot of miles! I think shoes are such an individual thing. You just have to keep trying until you find what is great for you. About four years back I got some cheap Adidas running shoes at Costco. They were so perfect for me that I found the exact shoe online on Amazon and always have a new pair awaiting. I'm afraid they will no longer be available, so I've thought about getting a few more. Your shoes are so darn important!

Soccer and skiing when i was more concerned with keeping up with the boys than stopping when things hurt. I have bits of cartilage that float and give me grief and have come back from multiple hyperextensions without surgery, that’s where swimming and water polo saved me. I can still ski with a brace, but no jumps, no trails and limited moguls. I have worked on strengthening the surrounding muscles and tendons to keep my knees in check. I don’t want surgery. Not there yet. I’ve done well moving and maintaining. And i have to buy good shoes for walking. I “can” run on the treadmill, but I’m always sorry afterwards. That’s why i got the pool. Needed it when I’m younger so i can live long enough to retire healthy. My grandfather died of massive heart attack one year after he retired. I don’t want that.

I love Asics! I would advise anyone who wants to start running to go to a store specialist in running. They will measure your feet, put you on a treadmill to watch you running, and hence find the perfect shoe for you. Sometimes they notice you need extra support. And replace your shoes after 400 miles even if they still look great.

I’m new balance all the way. Even when it kills me to pay the price. All about that arch support location being perfect on my foot.

Wow, Katsolo, that is rough. I guess you have great, fun memories but at a cost. I'm glad you have your pool! You do amazingly, and I'm sure your heart is thanking you for keeping it so healthy.

That is super advice, silkian, I'm sure! Although I've never done it... Either the analysis of what I need or the regular replacement of shoes. I really should be more careful. I will try. A few years back, I got on the barefoot running and walking kick. Good or not, it really, really helped me retrain myself to walk and run more naturally and lightly. Although I wear regular shoes now. I still run and walk much differently than I did. I am hoping this will help protect me from injuries a going forward.

That’s awesome!

Wow! Great job! I don't run, but I walk really fast. On a really good day, 3 miles takes me about 42 minutes.

Thank you, OhioAngel, Bill, and Lonnie! That's great walking, Lonnie! I'm actually a much better walker than runner. I just tell myself humans are designed to walk! But running... Blah... I don't know why I bother sometimes. I really think walking is much more important, sustainable, and safe on the joints. I walk almost daily, but I limit running to no more than three times a week... Frequently only twice a week.
