Diario de melissatwa, 19 oct. 20

Last week I took these photos on a lovely, brisk, ten mile walk along the Sammamish River. The next day I ran a quick three miles, lifted my heaviest, and then went for a 4 mile walk on many steep hills. After recently nursing a sore knee, it was a bit too much. From the research I have done, I have an iliotibial band, stress injury. I am pretty discouraged, since it looks like I won't be running or lifting with anything that puts much pressure on my knees for a while. If any of you have any experience with an IT band trouble and can give some advice, I would gladly hear from you! It could be worse I know. I'll need to cut my calories back and take it easy for a while. I am hoping I can get back to walking when the pain eases. It doesn't actually hurt that much. It just makes me annoyed that I can't run! :( I hope everyone has a beautiful week coming up!

Thank you, dear Diana! ❤️Tom, I really am going to try to be careful. I am not good at taking my time to heal, but over the years, (I am feeling rather aged today) 😑 I have learned it doesn't pay to rush back into an activity before my body is ready. I'm just taking one day at a time! Thank you! 🤗

Katsolo, I looked up bob & brad and watched them talk about IT band troubles. Not only are the activities pretty clear they suggest, it was encouraging to hear their positive words that this is totally fixable! I'm sure hoping! 😁

They’re a little goofy, but their info is pretty good on the PT stuff. I have crap knees, but have managed to avoid surgery while doing most of the things i love.

beautiful pics Melissa! Sorry to hear about your knee injury. I don't know the technical term for my knee injuries but my right had something to do with the patella not tracking right so they had me wear a knee brace that held it in place. I never was treated for my left. They had me do was work up to 10 min on a recumbent bike but I had burning in my left knee so I had to ease in to it slowly. Of course your situation is different so it's probably best to get a docs advice, but one thing that really helped was to freeze little Dixie cups of water then once frozen tear off the top to expose the ice and rub that on my knee. You won't want to do it longer than 20 min within I think 4 hours, because you can get frost bite. But it's a good way to get inflammation down without taking medications. I hope and pray you heal quickly!

You mean you want to be named in my life insurance, Chris?! 😁 I am so sorry, Jenny, that your activity is limited by that kind of pain. Is there expectation that it could improve? I hope so. ❤️

Katsolo, I had looked at so much information, and what they presented made a lot of sense. I think I need to chill and let the swelling in the tissues reduce. I think, with some work, I might be able to avoid reinjury. That is my hope for sure!

Bearnoggin, your knees just really had so much trouble. I am so sorry! How frustrating it must have been and still is for you. I had never had a problem until about a month ago. I eased up a lot, but I should have done a little research then to avoid rhe trouble I'm in now. Before, both hurt a bit... Enough to make me stop running, but this time my left is really feeling quite rotten. I am for sure using ice, but just every so often and not directly on the skin. I think it will just take some time to relax and heal up. But I've got work to do to make sure it doesn't become a chronic problem!

Just stunning, Melissa! My run looks nothing like this. Today I saw a raccoon by the dumpster. Totally normal. I’m sorry you can’t work out as hard as you want to right now. That would really frustrate me. I hope you recover quickly and get back to your regular routine. 💖

Thank you, newnameMM! I am dreadfully frustrated, but I've had set bckas before. I know I'll get things back to normal when I can. Yes, you are so right, Kenna. I've pushed through pain so many times in the past and never with a good outcome. I have to drop my calories down some to match my activity level, and just do what I can. Grrrrr! 😁

I know from experience about knee issues. I personally beat up my knees for 30+ years with tennis, hiking, running, aerobics and skiing. Be kind to yourself and listen to your body. Always stretch before and after a walk, run, or any other exercise. Ice is your friend. Heat can also help. Don't overdo it like I did as I had to have several knee surgeries and double knee replacements. You are at a good weight so that is a good thing. Sometimes knee supports can help. Good luck and I hope you heal quickly. You sure are blessed with a beautiful place to walk or run. You have so much on your plate already. Take care of yourself and I wish you all the best.

Thank you, Diablo! I know you know what it is like to have to deal with injury... When you just want to be alright to work out. 😑 I appreciate you guys so much, petra and Ireland. Thanks for caring. I'm just taking one day at a time. I'm taking it easy on my knees but also working hard at eating less. It is an adjustment for sure. 😊

Thank you, sweet Roxy Marie! ❤️ I haven't noticed much improvement and it has been nearly a week of reducing my activity. I am terribly impatient, but I know being cautious now can help me in the end. I am not very good at stretching out well either before or after a workout. I think you have hit exactly on my fatal flaw... My hips and knees and the bands that connect are terribly tight. I am working many times a day at strengthening and making the area more supple... I hope it works! 😁 Right now I still have a lot of burning on the outside of my knees but especially my left.

Lovely, lovely to hear from you, Becky!!! This path is about ten miles from where you and I walked and is connected! 😁 ❤️🌹
