Drs in ICU, kept asking who I live with and who takes care of me. And, the nurses wanted to slide me up in the bed and were amazed when I told them I could do it myself. What kind of eighty-year-olds do those people encounter? After a couple of days, I noticed a phone on a table about eight feet away from me and asked what use was my having a phone in my room if I couldn't have access to it. They looked at me and blinked and said, "most people in ICU don't use telephones." Guess they'd never encountered an old Cajun before. I made them laugh , and one nurse said, "ICU is fun with you in here." Warmed my heart. What a wonderful bunch of nurses, they earn their place in Heaven every day.

We tell our patients that lol. If you need your phone, you can talk, you can go to the bathroom. It’s time to transfer to Medsurg. I guess we’re used to non-moving, non-speaking patients. You can say we’re introverts lol.

That's funny Piney! Of course, in my case, we were just waiting to see if my organs were going to start functioning again or not. Fortunately, they did.

shirfleur, you'd be surprised how some folks are when they get older. I hope to be like you! I was in PT a few weeks ago and there was an 87 year old lady in there, no walker or anything doing her exercises. you all inspire me ❤️ so glad you're back home now and doing better 😁

Thanks Asaver, I appreciate that. The reason I use a walker is because I have severe arthritis in my right ankle, it has basically collapsed and is therefore very painful to stand or walk unaided.

Thank goodness you’re better, no matter what the reason was!!! i’m grateful for the nurses that help me and I try to make them smile because I know 90% of the people give them hell. You’re so wonderful to make them happy just by being you!❤️❤️❤️❤️

It always amazes me to find out how old people are! You are doing great Shirl! My mom was like that for a long time! She is 95 and starting to age very quickly now but she used to go to the gym and had a trainer until she had a stroke and she was in her late 80s! After that she still stayed pretty active until her body began to tell her differently about 2 years ago...

you'd be amazed at how many people don't want to take care of themselves and are constantly in and out the hospital, because they don't follow up with the Drs like their supposed, take their meds or stop doing drugs and smoking and drinking. they come to the hospital and all of a sudden can't do anything for themselves and want us to do everything for them like we're their personal maids
