I killed the yeast, but I'll improve for next time... whole wheat bread.

Thanks so much guys! You know what? It tasted great! It was a new recipe that described the way the dough would rise... when it did not rise much, I figured my instant yeast was old (it is) or that the water I activated it in was too hot.

It was 1,205 calories for the entire loaf. Not too bad!

Yeast is tricky. I love making bread also. One tip I learned along the way is when it’s rising, be very gentle with your bowl/pan. It made such a difference to my success… even gently, placing the bread in the oven makes a difference.

We've baked all our own bread for decades. My experience has been that it's fiendishly difficult to get whole wheat to fully rise. I've never pulled it off without an egg and a bit of sugar or other sweetener to feed the yeast. My husband uses some white flour in his. This last loaf, he mixed up the seeds and used cumin instead of caraway. It's...different 🤣
