The ones I got a week or two ago weren't quite so fancy but they do their job well enough.

I like them! I have been looking at shows the last few months as well. When I started walking, I had 3 pair of what I thought were walking shoes: Nike, Reebok, and New Balance. When I got them, I just got the cheapest one they had that looked nice. I blew those puppies out in a month. Lesson learned: Just because the look like athletic shoes, and are name brand doesn't mean they actually are made for exercise. SO then I went to the shoes I really spent money on: my Columbia Hiking boots.I have logged hundreds of miles on them this year. They were already two years old [but relatively low milage] when I started really using them, and they have held up wonderfully. They are now beginning to show severe wear on the the tread, however, so I figure I will have to get new shoes by the end of summer. I will not be buying any more cheap shoes however. So, do not feel guilt about getting quality footwear. Totally worth it.

I once asked someone who was giving me crap about the amount I spent on my biking gear if he was going to trade in his sports car for a Yugo. I still don't think he got it. :D

I agree with poofwizard. Buy the very best quality footwear,( and workout gear in general) that you can afford. Any time I go cheap it never holds up. I love new balance or Nike sneakers for running. They have to be running sneakers though. Columbia or timberlands for hiking. You get what you pay for. I live in my active wear these days, it's about the only thing I ever splurge on. Enjoy your new sneakers. They're fab, love the color.

Thank you, poof, Jparlett, & 2426! I don't drive so I take buses and walk everywhere. On top of that, this city girl turned country or rather "coniferous" and now I basically live in the woods. Having good shoes that wear well and are comfortable is imperative, especially with a bad hip. And, well who can resist turquoise and peach - my two favorite colors! LOL. I wish I could say, they will scare away the coyotes, but I don't think they'll be too impressed. They were definitely a splurge, but will be put to good use
