The idea of eating “forbidden” foods is more alluring than actually eating it. I combat this by actually eating it. I was craving cereal after seeing all the yummy cereal posts. I bought two boxes, a chocolate lucky charms and banana cream Frosted Flakes. Suffice to say, my tastes have change and I can no longer eat sweet cereals. I got rid of it after two bites.

I was known as donut queen, now the only donuts I can eat is the plain cake donuts. Frosting or glaze makes it too sweet for me. Stick with a no sugar/added sweetener diet to increase your sensitivity to sweets.

Yeah taste and preference change with diet. It is nice to know. Makes it easier to make the diet you eat your life long diet. I find a lot of food too sweet now. I am the same about donuts. I cannot eat some of them as they are overwhelmingly sweet.

Yes! It’s cyclical, make healthy choices overtime changes your taste preferences leading to even more healthier changes. Your progress is a summation of all your choices. One binge or fast isn’t going to undo everything. Making small changes overtime will lead to a noticeable change. Rosio doesn’t use oil in her tortillas or drink her calories, Sharon mealpreps, I eat low carb more days than not...etc.

Yep yep yep. I used to love cheeseburgers and onion rings but I've had them twice now and they are just bleh. Actually made me queasy. Haven't tested with cereal just yet as I haven't craved it nor feel it benefits me anyway.

It’s crazy how our tastes change, before I thought coffee without sugar and cream was intolerable, now I don’t like the taste of sweetened coffee. With all the calories saved I can eat more food lol!

It is, most my liquid calories are sugar free and I now think they taste the same as the sugary ones

Don’t know cause I never drink the sugary ones, I got no need for that

It’s the little but lifetime changes that help us maintain weight loss. I will never cook more than 1 meal per week with oil and will never grab a regular coke instead of diet (when given option). I am at peace with that.

Yes That is the truth! To stay at the lower weight we cannot eat/drink like when we were 50-60 lbs heavier.

My nickname has always been ‘junk food jenny’. I can’t seem to give up sweets. I’m okay with that ;). I can drink coffee but it has to be mine and with Splenda. The Splenda helps with my morning sweet cravings for some reason. Even though I did my best to avoid my candy bars and things for a year, nothing seemed sweeter. Now that I’ve added a few back in per week I think donuts taste sweeter than usual. I’m thinking maybe because the candy bars I eat don’t seem sweet and therefore pure sugar like the glaze can be better tasted. 🤷‍♀️ I’ve noticed sweet corn and carrots with butter when cooking so seem sweet now when they didn’t before. Meat seems to have less flavor. It’s odd how my tastes have changed or stayed the same when compared to how almost everyone else’s had.

Jenny, the changes to your preferences are already starting. I noticed when I was eating artificial sweeteners it lead me to crave sweets in general. When I cut them out initially the change was hard, but overtime the cravings went away and when I try to eat sweets they are too sweet.

It’s taken more than a year to get here. After decades of eating many sweets daily I guess it could take decades to make a complete change. As a teen I’d eat 3 meals, at least one snack cake, 1-2 candy bars, 2-4 regular cans of coke and usually a sandwich after school with the candy bar or another 2 snack cakes per day. Dessert for special occasions. I was always thin and had a great metabolism. Worked with my animals but no athletics at all, no running, no weights etc. Man I miss those days and my dentist does too lol. A year ago I would look at a sweet and gain weight I think. I just need to figure out how to balance the sweets and normal foods to stay around 1800 kcal a day. It’s hard because I can’t generally eat that much real food but I’m rarely satisfied with just one treat. I’ll get there.

Everyone here struggles even if they seem like they got it together. Read their posts and see if you can glean tips and advice on finding balance. If you’re used to eating a bunch of sweets a day, try replacing one with real food. Eventually you will be able to reduce the number of sweets even more. You’re a fighter and strong, I know you’ll be able to tame this sweet addiction.

Yes, I have experienced that too. Thank you for sharing your personal example. 👍

I gave it away to a neighbor with a girl who loves sweet cereal.
