Carb (grain) sensitive? I can eat carbs fine. I ate it everyday while I was on the keto diet in the form of leafy greens and veggies. However. every time I eat rice, breads, or pasta I get tired and bloating soon after eating. I sometimes get stomach cramps and diarrhea. During the work week I eat my normal diet, but on the weekends I eat out with friends and I don’t make the best choices. Today I am suffering at work and have to stay close to a bathroom for the choices I made yesterday. 😬😬😬 I’m sparing you the details but I kinda wanted to take pictures of the contents of the toilet bowl after eating 150 g of carbs. It’s not pretty nor a mental reaction to eating carbs but a gross physical one. Not every body responds the same way to the same foods, but it’s something that happens to some of us. I had it everyday in high school after lunch but dismissed it as food coma and lactose intolerance. After spending my adult life trying a different diets, the ones that had me feeling the best are the ones that eliminates grains and some lactose (cheese and creams are ok unless I have too much). No bloating, lethargy, flatulence, cramping or diarrhea.

gluten sensitive? Gluten is a protein in grains but there is none in rice. I also think that when you eliminate a kind of food like grain your stomach adjusts to dealing with other plant carbs so that if you do have grains you will not have a good amount of the "right" microbes to deal with it/them and you will feel off. That is one take.

I thought that too but I had the same issues since forever but I remember consistently falling asleep during math class in hs after lunch. I ate school lunches then so I don’t think it’s switching from plant to grain. I do remember switching from vegetarian to omnivore and feeling unwell for a while until my body was used to eating meat again.

My life changed for the better when I stopped eating grains. Falling asleep after lunch is definitely a sign of allergy/sensitivity to high carbs/grains. Experiment and eliminate whatever foods don't work for you. My problem was mood swings with the grains; they make me depressed - and who needs that. So, out they went and I don't have that problem anymore.

I will have to treat it like one would treat any allergen.

Look into the BloodType diet and it's lists of foods to avoid and ones that are beneficial. I have the same issue with most grains, especially wheat, but Spelt and Kamut, both early forms of wheat, are fine for me. Amaranth too. Sprouted grain bread and Rye crisps were also perfectly fine and each were on my bloodtype's beneficial list. I think modern farming and manufacturing strips away so many enzymes and nutrients from our food that our bodies don't know what to do with the stuff anymore.

I could have written this. My whole life since I was little I would get stomach aches and diarrhea almost daily. I thought I was lactose intolerant too, thought I had IBS. I even had a colonoscopy to check for IBS and they found nothing. My diet was pretty typical, cereal and milk in the morning, sandwich for lunch, and dinner usually had some form of rice, pasta or potatoes involved. Now that I’ve removed all of those things from my diet I am 100% cured! I’m super happy that changing my WOE resulted in great weight loss, but even more, it has made me feel so much better!! I don’t have to worry about where a bathroom is all the time!! When I saw my doctor recently and we talked about my weight loss doing LCHF she asked about my stomach issues and of course I told her that I’ve never felt better. She casually mentioned that I probably had gluten sensitivity since removing those foods made my symptoms go away. Why didn’t any doctor ever suggest that this might be the problem?! I feel like I was robbed of so much having to deal with this my whole life!! But soooo thankful that I have finally figured it out! Good luck Moopie! ❤️

Colitis? Crones? How bad is it? Sounds bad. See a doc! You shouldn’t have to live this way since childhood. So sad. Feel better!! ❤️

It can get pretty bad, Easter I had croissant breakfast sandwich and shared a bowl of ramen in the afternoon. I felt super tired soon after the sandwich and gassy, but refused to nap. After the ramen I was sleeping for 3 hours. Woke up with bloating and swollen face. The stomach was hurting a little, the next day I had diarrhea and stomach pains for most of the day. When I eat low carb I feel amazing. No awful ailments. I try to avoid grains for this reason. Flour based foods has the added diarrhea, with rice even if it’s just a cup I will feel tired.

The other thing about commercially raised non-organic wheat is that they spray it with glyphosate/round-up as part of the harvest process-- the day before harvest. That stuff is poisonous and carcinogenic. No wonder we are sensitive to it! Also, ramen often has MSG in it -- the G stands for glutamate which is an allergen for anyone with Celiac or gluten sensitivity.

When I make pasta at home I use organic but I have the same reactions. Glutamate does not have gluten, but the ramen noodles do. And if they use soy sauce there is hidden gluten in there too. There are a lot of pesticides and preservatives in our diet :( :( :(

I’m glad you figured out what works for your body! You too MrsRoboto! 🙏🏻 It’s terrible that doctors don’t know enough about nutrition and food allergies 😕

Once you've discovered that you can't eat gluten, it's really not that hard to avoid it and you'll feel so much better! Just don't eat it.

What you say is true, once in a while I crave noodles and ramen. I choose to just eat it and deal with the consequences. My post is to explain why some people might prefer a grain free diet like whole 30, keto or paleo over straight portion control for weight loss. I still got diarrhea from the flour coating on the fried chicken. It has been 3 days of low carb dieting and I feel better.

Glad to hear you are feeling better Moopie. It's really our bodies that tell us what we can eat and feel right.
