While my ultimate goal is to maintain a healthy blood sugar level I cannot deny I want weight loss to result in there somewhere. After all, it’s front and center constantly. That’s all you folks talk about. Food, exercise and weight loss. What kind of social network is this?

Okay, tongue in cheek humor over. I recognized I hadn’t weighed in over a month and did the calculation. According to the math I should have lost at least 7 pounds since my last weigh in. Actually, more considering I record my activity as sleeping 24 hours a day. While I’m excruciatingly obsessive recording my intake I post my activity with a ‘worst case scenario’ buffer.

Regardless of the non-math I still seem to be at a pound a week. To quote a movie ‘it’s not sexy, but it’s got teeth’. (And now you know what I watched yesterday.)

So apparently I can’t math my way to weight loss. But I’m not on the ledge yet. I’m rocking the blood sugar and just hoping that losing weight this slowly means it I won’t ever find it again. This was the prelude to my previous journal about having a relationship with weight.

I will say this about LCHF. Ketosis continues to elude me so I’ve stopped sweating when I near the 20 net carb limit. Maybe in a few months and pounds it’ll find me. Or maybe I’ll attempt to meet the macros 90% of the time with a 10% reserved for higher carb days.

I don’t quite totally grasp the whole ‘fat adapted’ concept. I’ll confess I initially thought the theory of eating high fat would make my body use the fat I already had. I now recognize that’s illogical. I will say this method does help me feel less hungry all the time enabling me to maintain a caloric deficit without feeling deprived. And my body is looking different than with previous weight losses. I actually look more muscular somehow. So that in and of itself may be the magic of keto.

I don’t know that I feel any more or any less energy this way. I realize I regularly eschew exercise as if I’m a sloth reclining on a chaise lounge all day. I’m not. I’m actually quite active just nothing structured. But I’m regaining the ability to stand and walk much longer than I could five months ago. In a couple of weeks I’m going to a B&B for the weekend and I have theater tickets. The map indicates it’s a five minute walk. I’m not shaking my head at the idea as I would have months ago. It will all depend upon the street lighting as the program is at night. NSV’s also include being about to bend over in the pedicure chair and touch my toes without straining.

And I’m a thrilled that I’ve been eating at least one serving, sometimes two, of fruit daily without any spikes in my blood sugar. So that’s been nice.

And so concludes another episode of Bellaworld.

Why do you say ketosis eludes you? Are you using a blood test meter, or the strips?

Bells, I saw a video presentation by Benjamin Bikman, Ph.D. (in "bioenergetics"), a professor and researcher at Brigham Young University whose speciality is "insulin" and everything related to it. His take on "ketosis" is that registering *any* ketones on a blood ketone meter is being "in it." The fact that your blood sugar is so good is a great sign. You can find a number of his videos on this YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=benjamin+bikman+keto

Keto diet is a type of lchf diet, where about (estimates) 70% of your intake is from fats, 10% from carbs, and the rest from proteins . Lchf diets has at least 50% from fats, 30%carbs and 20% protein. When you become fat adapted, some of the issues you have when you transition from a standard diet to keto diet goes away, you sleep better, have better energy and carb cravings goes away. To you get there you have to be diligent about keeping the carbs low at 20-25 g net carbs. I was there before and having a hard time going back to keto. I have been succumbing to holidays, food daddy, sugar daddy, taco Tuesdays... lol you get the idea. Overall I try to lower my carbs and eat fewer processed foods because that seems to help suppress my appetite.

And if I haven’t said it enough times you still need a calorie deficit to lose. 👌

Is that an app or a doctors chart?

Erquiaga thank you. I'll admit I blanched a bit when FS predicted it would take 50 weeks to reach my goal. But if that's what it takes, that's what it takes. I'll just keep my chins up. Liv thank you. You've been so supportive to me. It means a lot. Keyten lol. Let's hope the relationship lasts as I have blackberries, raspberries and blueberries in the fridge. And I'm going to trust you on the day loss. Gz9 I test with both and continue to register “low”. Wifey hugs to you. You are always so kind. Thank you. Mira I felt hopeful when I'd register even .2 but other than one .9 it's still “lo”. Moopie - I'm learning more and more about it and thank you too for all the information and help. And yes, it's a rare day that I don't show a deficit. JC heavens kiddo calm down, lol! I didn't post this until late in the afternoon. Thank you. Apris this is an app called Diabetes M that Keyten turned me onto. It's free and easy to use but offers a ton of different tracking logs and reports. Thanks again everyone!

Bella, VirtaHealth has been coaching/monitoring T2 diabetics to reverse their diabetes with keto for three years; they tell me the average blood ketone reading of their patients is 0.3.

EXCELLENT - really happy for you!

It sounds like you may be one of those that has to stay under 10g carbs to get into Ketosis. I read something on here many months ago about someone having to stick to less than 10g. It’s not for me. It is what works for many though. You do what works for you. Perhaps it’s not the best option for weight loss for you but if the blood sugar is your goal then it’s obviously working for that! And fruit-yay! A few new choices to add variety into your diet. The math for me rarely works out. I should’ve gained 1.5# in the last 6 weeks I think it was yet I’ve gained 0.2#. The ‘body sculpting’ as I like to think of it is a plus. Perhaps all that protein is helping to maintain muscle as well as build a little when you do your nonstructured exercise. You are doing well! Great job on your nsv’s’

Bella, you are rockin it!!! Blood sugar under control and look at that graph!!! Slow is good as it means you are much more likely to keep it off instead of bouncing back up usually with more weight gain. I have to also exercise to lose any weight possibly due to the daily steroids for asthma. Every little bit helps in what you do during the day.

Congrats Bells. The Special "K" diet is working well for your body. Have you considered a tape measure to add to your arsenal of options? When your weight stalls the tape can tell a better tale then the scale. Holy Rhyming Prose what the french fried chicken just happened?

I think a pound a week is optimal. You're doing great!

Thank you HCB. Peep - I've had days under 10 so it's doable but we constantly say our woe needs to be sustainable and that's the part ... I'm not sure if it would be sustainable. But it's a thought to maybe try. I did toy with the idea of the egg-fast. I'll have to look at my social calendar, lol. Whole Food - that's my prayer... keep it off once and for all. I tell myself that the way I'm eating doesn't leave me deprived so as long as I keep the portions in control this should work. The real test of time will be if my body starts gaining again despite a deficit. So Terrapin - of all the times I've advised measuring to others here I've not done it myself. Guess I need to crawl that crawl, huh? You do crack me up. I always love to hear from you. Erika - I'm telling myself that's fine too... I'll just keep saying it over and over until I totally believe it.

My main concern is also rising blood sugar levels, losing weight is part of the management. Also, I am the oldest of five girls and want to remain the slimmest, just vanity.
