What a week! In the end when all the dust cleared I managed to lose 0.4 pounds. I am quite lucky in that I averaged nearly 50 calories above my window for the week. So any loss is good in that scenario. First two days I ate in my window, the next three days I ate around 100 calories above my window and the last two days just above my window. I clearly need to get that under some kind of control. So this week I dodged the bullet. I will need to shave this back some more.

As promised I have a couple of pictures for you. The one is my study. The 8 large drawers are made to hold legal size files. It was a joy to organize them. The other picture is in my new laundry room. This wall is for over flow from the kitchen so I brought up my large soup pots and store them here and other seldom used kitchen gadgets that I was storing in the basement. The upper cabinet has the dishes I need during large family suppers but not for the rest of the time. Again it was fun to organize everything. These cabinets are made out of poplar that I supplied to the cabinet maker. They were custom built by a Mennonite cabinetmaker. Very solid and well done.

The other excellent news for the week is that I have all three of my rental units rented! I really wasn't sure if I would be able to find renters in this time of COVID-19. What a relief to have that piece in place.

The snow is mostly melted and the days are getting warmer. Soon I will be outside more doing yard work. I am looking forwards to it.

The cabinets are absolutely beautiful. And so much wonderful storage space. I've missed that since I moved from a house to an apartment. Nice that the snow is melting; here we are well into Spring. 🌈

Thank you for the lovely comments! My house has a great deal of poplar trim and the ceilings in the entrance way, kitchen, living room, study and hallway are all poplar. That was something my husband initiated. At the time I was afraid it would be dark and would make the rooms feel small. The wood is so light in colour and the windows are big making the final effect quite spacious. Eventually I will be hanging all my family pictures in my study. A friend of mine is going to make frames using yet more poplar. I will have to see if that is too much.

Absolutely lovely! You have such an interesting an beautiful home, Carol! Having seen some other pictures, I am wishing for a 3D tour! The poplar is so I interesting and beautiful. You said you supplied the wood. Was it the lumber or actually off your own land. I know poplar is incredibly "popular" in AB! 😁 They make the most wonderful windbreaks. I miss the prairie so much. I'd love to be there now and see spring arrive. Nothing at all in the world like the smell of newly thawed land as the snow is melting. I miss the open space and the huge sky and the massive Rockies looking tiny in the distance. My hubby was born in Red Deer and I spent a lot of my life in Three Hills. I remember in college running on an old dirt road in the spring and finally being so thankful finally for a cooling wind rather than wishing the darn, freezing wind would stop blowing. OK, sorry for a walk down memory lane. 😁 I love your pictures. Keep posting the home transformation! And if you have pity on me, post a picture of the prairie! 😁

Melissatwa- I love your walk down memory lane. I grew up just outside of Drumheller on a farm. I had an Aunt and Uncle in Three Hills and my husband and I got married at the Red Deer Court House in 1977! I also remember running down those dirt roads and smelling spring. Carriganas were the windbreaks though. I live in Northern Alberta in the Boreal Forest. Basically forest with lots of tall skinny poplar, willow and spruce trees! So not exactly prairie. Still have the big blue sky just not as big as it is on the prairies! I will see about taking some outside pictures in the next week or two and will post them.

Poplar is an interesting wood. It is quite 'wet' when cut so when it is harvested it has to be tied down as it dries so it doesn't twist too much. Once it is dry it is like a hardwood. My husband was fascinated with the colours and prettiness of the wood. We bought some from a sawmill about an hour from us, used some and stored the rest for later projects. Then a small sawmill about 3 miles from us cut some rough lumber that Dave bought and stored. The lumber was stored at my house for about 15 years ready to be used but just not getting to the projects. So I had a lot of very dry poplar that was cut as shiplap. It had to be planed down to be used in the house. When I ordered the cabinets the cabinet maker was unable to source any dry poplar so I supplied it out of my stocks.
