Today I get to log in a new all time low! I lost an incredible 2.2 pounds this week. Before I get too darn excited I have to say that this entire week was moving painfully slowly with 4 days actually at modest gains. I kept to the plan and trusted it would come. Yesterday I was pleased to see a .6 loss from the beginning of the week and was hoping this morning to hold onto to that. I was totally tickled to see this substantial loss show up. This loss isn't totally out of left field as I averaged 1175 calories a day this past week so a loss was expected. This does mean that next week is going to be one of solidifying this loss and I may not get as dramatic of a loss two weeks in a row.

I went through my recipe books looking for something different. I made a lovely lentil chili and a soybean vegetable casserole. They were both delicious. I have never eaten plain soybeans before. Not bad. Very mild flavour.

My fellows haven't started renos yet. I am hopeful they will get started by Monday. I know once they start they will work until the job is done so I can be patient on this end.

We have a substantial snowfall. I will be dusting off my snowshoes sometime this week unless there is another thaw before winter really settles in.

With COVID, the government was slow to send out tax audits. So I got an audit for 2019 on medical expenses early this week. I knew to expect it but when it didn't come I just thought maybe I dodged this particular bullet. Essentially I had to provide proof of the expenses of the last three months of my husband's life. It is tough as I found that I relived the whole excruciating experience as I put the information together. I understand why the audit is done but it is so painful. I had this same experience the year I had to justify the expenses for my breast cancer and the year that I had to justify the expenses of the first part of my husband's cancer journey. I wish there was a better way as I am sure I am not the only person that finds this hard to do. The good news is that I have the paperwork all put together and just waiting on three letters from medical practitioners to add to the package before I mail it off.

3/4 of my last year's income was payed for my dad's and mom's surgeries and my wife's medical issues. There was no tax relief because tax lows have changed and medical expenses are ignored in Greece.

Wonderful loss - you are doing very well. Paperwork is the pits. Keep up the good work. Cheers to you.

Thank you Tassos for reminding me that I am lucky to live in a place where most all medical is paid for by the government and additional medical costs like travelling to and from medical procedures are considered on our taxes. Sometimes I have to be reminded of my good fortune.

Both mom and dad could have done their surgeries at no cost at public hospitals. But dad should wait ten to twelve months for his TAVI and mom at least three months for her spine. Docs said dad would not survive and mom would not be able to walk again if we were waiting that long. So i had to pay it all on my own. And i paid taxes for those money. Tax law does not distinguish medical expenses any more. Government says "go at public hospitals". But they fully ignore the urgency of the cases so if you have the money you live. Or else...

Tasso - my heart goes out to your situation. That situation makes a person so frustrated. If the surgery is urgent here, it happens as we are triaged according to need and so it is not first come first served. Elective and non-urgent surgeries drop to the bottom of the line. Our taxes do differentiate between medical, educational and a variety of other things. I know I am lucky to live in Canada!
