Well hot damn! I confronted the problem with respect and straightforward honesty. The guy apologized and in the next breath offered me the assistant management for the store along with a good raise. A little more responsibility but mostly just doing what I do anyway. I'm not certain I'll take it. I said I'd only work 4 days a week and that all is fine. Apparently the owners have been thinking about it for a while. I'm glad I didn't mess up my mission when I presented my issue. I need to think a b ut it and meet with the uppity ups

Thanks shir and bear. I was really nervous, but I'm too old to be pushed these days. I'd rather face stuff and see it it can be fixed. I guess that comes with having a zillion kids. I'm trying to be stronger... Yes, I am shir. 😂

My 2c Melissa! Take the new position & the raise. Better bargining power down tve road if you do wanr to look for a new job. Promotions indicate you are a desired employee👍👍 

Congratulations on maintaining self control during the discussion. As well as getting better results, you can feel good about your behavior. If they can promise the schedule you want, it sounds great! Probably hard to get that in writing, though.  

Thank you Nikina! I figured there was no time like at the beginning of a relationship to set some boundries. I am glad it worked out well, and I am hopeful for the future. Katsolo, Thanks a lot! It isn't a big powerful job, but recognition that I do well at it is nice. Since it is a hobby/nature store, it is much more about my experice in teaching that helps me do well. Big ticket sales just come because people get excited about what they can do to develop good habitats in their yards. Thank you, chia and sugarplum! Princess, an email is on the way. :) Again, thank you Shir and Bear! I want to like people and the new guy was making me concerned about his abilities and lack of connection. Sk, I think I will if the raise comes through and I can get the days I want. I haven't been there nearly as long as others, so I don't want good working relationships to become strained with the other staff. I have some dancing to do to see if a good rhythm can be attained. I am not sure being good at sales makes me the best choice to manage. I have been "managing" my zillion kids for a good long time. Maybe I can do it. Tom, for as old as I am, I have very little experience with negotiation etc. Thankfully, I am very close to my old boss who just got a great new job. He is coaching me on how to get what I want from the new manager and owners. It is nice to have someone in my corner... especially someone who knows the landscape so well and urged they promote me before he left.
