Although I visit there quite often, if I had a nickel for every comment that starts 'according to the internet... or according to google....' I'd have a boatload of nickels.

Do you trust pubmed studies?

My MIL very often starts her sentences with "they say..." Always annoys me. I have developed a great dislike for "them" whoever "they" are

People need to understand what goes on behind research and the process of discovery. Studies also so preliminary findings and then those same researchers conduct follow up research which may or may not support the initial findings. Also, researchers conduct literature reviews when performing research to assess knowledge gaps - and during this time - there can be much disagreement on current literature and studies that have conflicting results. Research is also evolving. Discovery is all about evolution. It is about the body of research and not necessarily about 1-2 studies themselves. And folks pay less attention to the discussion in an a paper and jump directly to the conclusions - or just look at the abstract.

I often look at how paid for the research before I read it

I would be happy if the clueless just, "did some research" on The Scientific Method.

Having some peer reviewed and evaluated studies with some standardized methodology is better than basing fat loss on an individual success. But what do I know? 💁🏻♀️💁🏻♀️💁🏻♀️

You trying to pick a fight with me, Moop? That's cute.

I partly agree with you Moopy but it is very expensive to run trials on weightloss that are controlled and they are almost never done. So for those of us who deviate from the the SAD diet we are left to learning from those who came before us and the reasoning used by those of us with a bit more knowledge about nutrition and science.

It is fun to type in ketogenic in the pub med and see how many are doing research on what may be the benefits or negatives of fueling on ketones rather than sugar. Sure is picking up

Right Liv! I am excited to hear what comes down the pike and how it can be used to help others. Most research isn't about money (although you have to watch the need for recognition) - I think it is more important to understand who are the reviewers of the research. For those who are unfamiliar with the process - most research must be reviewed by an IRB to move forward. Some IRBs are more laxed than others and some more experienced than others. They are also responsible for assessing financial conflict of interest.

@Moopie..yes, and folks should do so with the understanding that it is about discovery, evolution, innovation to help people. Not to build a case on an the internet. Helping people and evolution are the key words there.
