Sunday Morning May 4th ~ quickie journal before I head out to play in my ‘church’ before going to the theater this afternoon with Kaddy.

High Tea at the Adolphus Hotel in Dallas (there, I live in Texas) yesterday was nice. Sedate but pleasant. The Adolphus is a very beautiful, luxurious, historical site and hotel filled with treasures and artifacts from around the world. The service was impeccable (as far as I could tell having never been to ‘tea’ before) and the food was delicious. I have to think this isn’t the normal tea like they have daily on Downton Abbey unless it substitutes for what we rednecks label ‘lunch’. Click Here to Visit the Adolphus Tea if You're Interested

All Things Food and Tea - I was a bit uncomfortable afterward with the feeling I’d over eaten despite the tiny finger sandwiches but later decided it was likely the nine to ten cups of tea consumed along with a glass of water and a flute of champagne. Around 8pm I finally had a couple of ginger chews to help my digestion so that I wouldn’t have acid reflux when I went to bed. Slept very well.

The ‘overfull’ feeling triggered some old emotions and patterns I had to work through especially the one that goes ‘well, you’ve already blown it today, may as well make the most of it, let’s have french fries.’ Regardless.. no binging, purging, overeating or midnight munching madness although I did get up twice for a bottle of water. And today’s a brand new day.

The introvert in me is generally uncomfortable making idle chit-chat with strangers and I’m actually a little sore today from ‘sitting up straight’ as we were dining on a sofa and wing back chairs instead of at an actual table. I just concentrated on sitting up straight, smiling, and saying things like, “Oh, how very interesting. Do tell me more’. And they did. Did they ever. Whew. Everyone in life has a story and wants to tell it. Despite my endless journals here, I am what people consider ‘a great conversationalist’ because I’m a really good listener. I already know my stories. I let them tell theirs.

Apparently I committed a huge social faux pas by turning the china cup over (empty) to read the label and pattern before they served the tea. I guess we don’t do that in public, LOL. I don’t even know why I did that as I really have no interest in china or flatware other than using it to dine but that sparked a conversation ‘well, I know this is rude but I am wondering if this flatware is sterling’. I could tell it wasn’t simply by lifting it. I’m not that backward. I guess it was funny to me because I sort of brought out the redneck in them and they dropped the pretentiousness OR they did it to make me feel comfortable.

And that’s about it. Have a wonderful day my friends.

Oh I would do terrible at high tea lol. Congrats to you for only doing one astounding no-no! I, too, am an excellent listener but that's primarily because I don't like for people to know a lot about me. You would be surprised how little I post on FB. You guys are my real friends lol. You did so well yesterday, and an excellent job not jumping on the 'I've already ruined it' bandwagon. I often struggle in that arena as well, especially when alcohol is involved. For the record, I had already concluded that you were from Texas lol, I am one hell of an investigator. My father and his family live in humble Texas, though I have never been. I don't like big spiders, or snakes and I imagine they are everywhere down there. Do have a wonderful day, Bella!!

Bella, love your tea story. I would have had trouble getting through it as well. Too funny cause I would have turned the cup over also. Also not interested in china patterns but my mom was and I actually have lots of antique plates and glassware that I have inherited. It would have just been something I grew up doing.

I totally agree with Yolanda I would have been on my 5th faux pas just on appearance alone. I could hear someone saying to me. “Oh dear, you are supposed to drink the tea not wear it.” But it looks lovely and I am glad that it was a nice experience. Does this mean you are uppity now? Whatever you are we still love ya. Have a great day. “There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea.” I have to remember that. :P

Sounds like your first proper high tea experience was very interesting and delicious! I lived in England for a few years in my twenties and married an Englishman whose family does enjoy high tea on occasion, so I too have enjoyed those little sandwiches, scones, clotted cream with the best jams ever! You should travel to England one day (maybe swing be there after Italy) and go to Harrods for an exceptionally luxurious high tea experience. BTW, the EWYL is going very well! I've never felt so relaxed about food ever in my life! I can't believe how simple it is and how little I think about food now. I read most of Ruhu's chapter summaries in our group forum and they have been very helpful. I'm not going to overthink all of the new information...just listen to my body...thanks again for pointing me in the right direction. Josie ;-))

Glad you enjoyed the high tea experience. I don't go often but I love it. Love the cartoons.

Too funny, my grandmother would always say that you can't have everything. She'd say, "We've got cute and witty, no way was God gonna give us skinny!" Help, I've been BRAINWASHED!!!!!!! :D -- P.s. I love the theater...I'm so overdue!

Glad you enjoyed the high tea experience. I have been to a Tea with my daughter, but not the high tea. It sounds interesting. Congrats on your careful eating. Have a great night LoreJae

Curious. I'm waiting to see how long an 'unquickie' journal is. :)

I think I've mentioned that we lived in London for 3 years, so I'm reminiscing with you my days of high teas. I loved the experience too, but always felt I was play acting or playing dress ups again. I don't know about yours, Angel, but in London they always had such different sandwiches than what I was used to,as well. Thank you so much for your kind comments on my journal, as always! We have come so far, thankfully, and I was reminded again by your comments about feeling overfull. God put us on this mindfulness journey together, my friend, for a really great reason! xoxox
