Day 2 of a planned 2 days of mostly ‘no solid food’ fasting

I had been hitting the protein powder hard the last few months. This causes 'excessive' protein consumption that most people never encounter.

I remain unconvinced that papers like this: https://bit.ly/3heIIfA that acknowledge that through gluconeogenesis up to 50% of protein can be converted to glucose in the liver, the observation in the study that it did not increase blood glucose levels has them conclude that it is therefore not a problem?

If the glucose was sourced by carbs or protein the end result is the same once it is in the liver.

For me, low glucose means "lose weight", high glucose means "gain weight". Why? In *my* body (I can only speak for myself), my cells require glucose/glycogen for energy. When I limit the glucose source my body must burn fat to produce that glucose.

And, where does it do that? That's right, in my liver...

A great article about the liver is here: https://bit.ly/2XMYw17

😎 Life is Good! Have a great day everyone!

I think that sounds good. I can and do eat a lot protein myself without it having any weight impact. But that is for me. Hope you have a great day.

@liv001 - Keep in mind I am trying to *lose weight*. Also, a higher calorie burn will also make a difference. I guess my point is that in my opinion the protein doesn't 'just go in your muscles' as many people believe :)

Gluconeogenesis is demand-driven, not supply driven, which is an important differentiator when it comes to low carb / keto diet.

@chesgreen - Thansk!

@ogyoglethorpe89 - Yes, a fair point. However, during the days when I have my dietary carbs <20 and I go for a 5 mile run, I think that will drive some 'demand' :) I believe that drinking 77g+ of liquified protein is going to provide my liver the glucose the insulin is telling it to supply. I believe *not* consuming the dietary protein would require my liver to first exhaust the glycogen, then start burning fat.
