I have been watching lots of videos about ADF - Alternate Day Fasting and it sounds like something that might work for me, so I've decided to give it a shot. Yesterday I had black coffee for breakfast, decaf black coffee for lunch, and herbal tea in the evening. In between I had water. I know a "clean" fast would be water only, but I've got to cut myself a little slack and use the crutch of beverages with almost no calories. I was fine through the morning and into the early afternoon. Typically, I eat most of my calories later in the day, so it was no surprise that the hunger pangs didn't start until the afternoon. Dinnertime was the hardest part of my day. I normally eat the majority of my food in the evening. I was craving food but calmed my cravings by watching other people eat. I know that sounds counterintuitive, but it worked. There is one popular YouTube channel that I watched. It's a woman who makes her living eating on camera. She's unhealthy because of it, but we all make our choices in life, right? So I watched her gobble down a huge fast food meal of fried chicken, biscuits, mashed potatoes with gravy, french fries, and a sweet tea beverage. There was a lot of slurping and moaning and other sounds of pleasure. As I watched her and enjoyed her food vicariously, I was also looking at her morbidly obese body and thinking "This is the price you would pay". I feel guilty for watching and supporting this self-destructive behavior, but it is strangely motivating for me to stay on track. I'm sure that others watch her for the same reason.

I still wanted dessert, so I switched to another YouTube creator, a professional eater. This man is fit. He runs and bikes and works out to maintain his fit body, and I imagine that he might do some fasting too. For his challenges, he will consume astronomical numbers of calories in one day or less. I watched him eat 100 chocolate Easter eggs in one video, and in another episode, he ate 10 servings each of 9 or more different processed junk foods. These videos use a lot of fast-forward of course, but it's amazing to watch. I enjoy him and other professional eaters more than I do the woman previously mentioned, because he and other pro eaters like him are physically fit and healthy, although I wonder what the long-term effects of pushing beyond the limits are.

After watching these videos my desire to eat was gone and I was able to fall asleep easily. I woke up feeling fine and as is typical for me, I was not hungry. It's coming up at 11 a.m. and I'm still not in a hurry to break my fast. It's true what they say about alternate-day fasting. You'd expect that you'd want to eat the house the next day, but you don't. So we will see how the rest of today goes, and then perhaps I'll fast tomorrow. I'm not committing to anything. Some people do a 5:2 method of intermittent fasting and that sounds promising, but I'm just going to play it by ear.

Wish me luck.
